Governor David A. Paterson has vetoed the jury selection bill (A11715/S8661) which was overwhelmingly passed by the Legislature (137-1 in the Assembly and 62-0 in the Senate).
We discussed the bill in an earlier post when it appeared likely that it would be signed into law.
This is unfortunate in that the jury bill had much good in that it sought to make uniform rules for jury selection. At this time each county has its own rules of jury selection, and, occasionally, those rules are ignored to the detriment of the parties.
The jury bill will be revisited in the next legislative session.
